Top questions

Can I use eSIM in Thailand?

Yes—if your phone supports eSIM, you can install a Thailand travel eSIM by scanning a QR code and use it for data during your trip.

When should I install my Thailand eSIM?

Install the eSIM profile before departure (scan QR and add it to your phone). Activate data when you arrive by selecting the eSIM for mobile data and enabling Data Roaming for that line.

Will my home SIM still work?

Yes. With dual SIM, keep your home SIM for calls/SMS (including 2FA) and use the Thailand eSIM for data. Keep home SIM data off to avoid roaming charges.

Do I need Wi‑Fi to install the eSIM?

You need a stable internet connection once to download the eSIM profile (home Wi‑Fi is best). After installation, mobile data works without Wi‑Fi.

How do I activate at Bangkok airport?

Connect to airport Wi‑Fi, set the eSIM as your Mobile Data line, enable Data Roaming on that line, wait 2–5 minutes for registration, then test with Maps/WhatsApp.

Is Thailand eSIM data-only or does it include calls?

Most travel eSIMs are data-only. Use WhatsApp/FaceTime/VoIP for calls or keep your home SIM active for voice.

Does hotspot/tethering work in Thailand?

Yes. You can share your data connection with a laptop or family devices (subject to your phone settings).

How much data do I need for Thailand?

Light use: 1–3 GB/week. Regular maps + social: 3–6 GB/week. Hotspot/remote work: 10 GB/week or more depending on video calls.

My eSIM shows “No Service” — what should I do?

Confirm the eSIM is enabled, Mobile Data is set to that line, and Data Roaming is ON for the eSIM. Toggle Airplane Mode, restart the phone, then try manual network selection.

Data is connected but very slow — how to fix?

Move outdoors, disable VPN temporarily, switch between 5G/LTE settings, and try manual carrier selection if available.

Can I use the same eSIM across Thailand + other Asian countries?

For multi-country travel, a regional plan is usually better. Compare Asia packs (7, 12, 20 countries) in the Asia eSIM guide.

Will I have good coverage on islands?

Popular islands usually have strong coverage near towns and main roads. Remote beaches, jungle interiors, and boat routes can be weaker.

When does the plan validity start?

Typically when the eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network (not at purchase).

What happens when I run out of data?

Data stops until you top up or buy another plan. Prepaid travel eSIMs are designed to avoid surprise bills.

Do I need to remove my physical SIM?

No. Keep your physical SIM inserted for calls/SMS and use the eSIM for data (dual SIM).

Need a Thailand plan now?

Choose a plan, install the eSIM before departure, and enable it right after landing.
